Well, dang it. I really got my hopes up that the editorial team at The Los Angeles Times was going to write the Crystal Cathedral news feature that I have been waiting with bated breath to read.
Let’s say that you have these Southern guys who are willing — for $2,000 or so — to show up at your house or camp out on your property and perform some kind of deep-fried mostly secular exorcism.
As strange as this sounds, I am here to sing the praises of the Baltimore Sun editors who to conceived and executed the following A1 Christmas season feature that — praise the Lord — contains absolutely no religious material or sentiment whatsoever (with the possible exception of Baachus and there may be a golden calf in here somewhere).

Many GetReligion readers will recall that I grew up in Texas as the son of a Southern Baptist pastor. I spent my teen years in Port Arthur, which was and is a rather hellish refinery town on Lake Sabine, on the Texas-Louisiana border. At this point, everybody knows what “Tebowing” is. Right? I mean, I sports fan or generic news consumer would have to be living on Mars not to have noticed the Tim Tebow media storm.
Unless I am reading the tea leaves wrong, we have not seen the end of the stories probing whether the once Honorable Newt Gingrich has adequately repented for his moral failures as a husband. The theme that keeps driving this subject into the headlines is, of course, his ongoing attempts to court the votes of evangelicals and other moral conservatives (with traditional Catholics being a crucial piece of that puzzle).
