As noted several times in recent weeks, it is quite natural for traditional forms of Christianity and Islam to collide — both are missionary faiths that seek to convert others. Both faiths claim to be the universal faith for all people in all cultures.

Chris Rock jokes in his latest HBO special, Never Scared, that he favors gay marriage because “gay people have a right to be as miserable as anybody else.” That pretty well sums up the consensus in a forum by The Nation called “Can Marriage Be Saved?”
Yesterday was one of those days when it was frustrating to be a God-beat blogger. You may have noticed that the U.S. Supreme Court punted on the “Under God” pledge case. I’m sure this was a great relief on the Democratic side of the church aisle and a disappointment to the Republicans. A strong, clear decision would have been great for fundraising on both sides.
As some of GetReligion’s readers have observed in our Comments feature, gay marriage is a frequent topic in this space. It’s a topic I would love to set aside, were it not such an inescapable talking point in religion circles and, by extension, on the Godbeat.
