In this week’s Crossroads podcast we discuss media coverage of Newt Gingrich’s comments on the importance of forgiveness to him. We also discussed the ethics of James O’Keefe’s NPR sting.
Progress in WPost gay-marriage package
It’s been 12 months since the District of Columbia legalized gay marriage, so it’s no surprise that the Washington Post marked the anniversary with some bonus coverage of the issue. When I say “bonus coverage,” I mean that the editors published even more stories on gay rights than normally appear in a daily edition of the newspaper.
Politics, Newt, sex and forgiveness
David Brody over at Christian Broadcasting Network News interviewed Newt Gingrich and got him to open up a bit about his faith. It’s an interesting interview, as Brody interviews tend to be, and you can read the excerpts or watch the video here.
Northwestern prof: Sorry you're stupid
Mollie mentioned last week the human sexuality class at Northwestern University that watched a live sex act after class, and at the sanctioning of their professor. Now we get a report of that professor “apologizing” — for doing, as he sees it, absolutely nothing wrong at all.
Sex and the college campus
Parents of students at Northwestern University might be interested to learn where some of the $40,000 they spend annually in tuition goes to. From the Chicago Sun-Times:
Westboro's winnings
Westboro Baptist Church keeps popping up in GetReligion territory thanks to its ability to capture attention through protests and lawsuits. Of course, the news yesterday that the Supreme Court ruled in the group’s favor is impossible to ignore.
Abortion and the news
As I was reading abortion news in Mother Jones and LifeNews.com recently, it occurred to me that most of the news — and I’m not even counting opinion — that I consume regarding sanctity of life issues comes from outside the mainstream media. It’s obviously a bigger problem on the pro-life side of things. I was shocked to learn last week, for instance, that NBC has still not reported on the Planned Parenthood sting videos. The media more or less ignored the amazing updates coming out of the Philadelphia abortion doctor murder case.
AP muffs Britain's foster-care ban
In other Associated Press news, The Washington Post Website published a short AP story out of England yesterday that raised more questions than it answered. The article was only five paragraphs, so I can’t adequately discuss it without posting it in its entirety. Here’s what washingtonpost.com ran under the headline “Couple lose foster care right over anti-gay stance“:
'Waning influence' of Maryland Catholics?
I like the concept of a Washington Post story on the Maryland Senate’s passage of a same-sex marriage bill.
