I’ve heard that a comedian can make a whole career in Hollywood out of wiener jokes. I wonder if the same could be said for the media and Weiner jokes.
Paul Ryan and the atheist bogeyman
As the resident libertarian here at GetReligion, I was curious about the flurry of stories about how a progressive Christian group is fighting Ayn Rand. So even though it ran over a week ago, I’m finally getting to this Religion News Service piece on the matter.
Got PR? One-sided news over in op-ed (corrected)
Katherine Stewart is the author of an upcoming book with one of those calm, reasoned, fair-minded titles that have become so common in the American marketplace in the past few decades — âThe Good News Club: The Christian Rightâs Stealth Assault on Americaâs Children.â
Sarah Palin's 'God Given' talents
I love being a reporter and I think it’s a great profession and that many reporters do invaluable work. I don’t think anyone’s going to say our proudest moments are involved with the bizarre and bizarrely thorough investigation into former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s email correspondence. But the Washington Post and New York Times — along with more overtly partisan outfits such as Mother Jones, ProPublica and msnbc.com — have teams of reporters digging through each and every one of the 13,000 emails that were released late last week.
Insert conservative Christian cliche here
Maybe you’ve heard: Conservative Christian voters are going to be a big deal in the 2012 U.S. presidential election.
Got news? Ahmadiyya refugee edition
I love all most of our reader submissions, but the other day we received one that sounded pretty surprising. It comes from Hasan Hakeem, a member of the Ahmadiyya Community and the Chaplain of the Kenosha County Jail in Kenosha, Wisconsin. I’ll go head and just quote it:
Caps, gowns and prayer lawsuits (updated)
As spring turns to summer, it’s the time for shaved-ice snow cones, cool dips in the swimming pool, hot nights at the ballpark … and steamy legal battles over whether prayer is allowed at high school graduation ceremonies.
Weinergate: Repentance, forgiveness and contrition
So we’re at the confession stage of Rep. Anthony Weiner’s sex scandal. For those who haven’t been following along, I’ll try to give a quick recap.
No mainline Protestants in GOP field?
Despite my best intentions to avoid the Internet last week, news of Sarah Palin’s bus tour and her Star of David pendant still somehow seeped into my vacation. Speculation over the 2012 presidential candidates takes up much of the media’s excitement as you can imagine reporters preparing to either flock to Palin’s campaign or write the campaign obits.
