Last week, the Drudge Report linked to some stories about a Florida woman who said that her former church had threatened to ‘go public with her sins’ by telling the congregation about her sexual relationship with a man who is not her husband. Here’s the WJXT report:

From a media standpoint, Ted Haggard really is the gift that keeps on giving. And Associated Press reporter Eric Gorski has kept on the story of the former evangelical leader. His latest report tells us that Haggard will be assisting with promotion for a documentary following his life after he was brought down in a 2006 sex and drugs scandal.
Scare quotes scare me
The Washington Post covered a new Bush administration rule that protects the conscience rights of health care workers. Or, as the Washington Post scare quotes it, “right of conscience.”

There’s an interesting story coming out of Atlanta where a judge arrested a Muslim woman for refusing to take off her head scarf at a courthouse security checkpoint. The early stories are pretty straightforward, such as this one from the Associated Press:
No greater shanda
It’s almost difficult to believe the size and scope of the scandal wrought by Wall Street money manager Bernard Madoff. I knew the story had a religion angle because I follow the excellent work of religion reporter Brad Greenberg at the Jewish Journal‘s God Blog. I learned early on from him that Madoff is Jewish and worked with a significant number of Jewish investors and charities.
Baby bioethics
Last week the Vatican issued a document on bioethics called “The Dignity of a Person” that was covered fairly extensively by the mainstream media. Considering what coverage of Vatican statements and documents is normally like, the coverage was actually not bad. But it wasn’t perfect.

I find it absolutely amazing that the Washington Post would react to the cover story published by its sister magazine Newsweek by running the story in its Saturday editions.
New religion page
Considering that the religion beat seems to be suffering with the rest of the media industry, it’s always nice to see a paper take steps to improve its religion coverage and marketing of same.
