Once more, into the religion-beat word wars (with an emphasis on the often foggy meaning of the word “evangelical”)!
Bachmann & Associates
I often tease my friend who will run for president some day that our friendship will end up costing him dearly. Reporters will dig up our connection and will explain what a freak I am and how that disqualifies him to be president. That’s kind of how it goes now if you run for office, apparently, no matter where you fall politically.
There goes the F-word LA Times, again
Let’s start with the obvious: There were more than a few believers who could accurately be described as “fundamentalists” at the Gov. Rick Parry’s combination prayer rally and pre-White House campaign trial balloon festival.
Guilt by footnote association
The initial reports that attempted to paint terrorist Anders Behring Breivik as some type of Christian fundamentalist have fizzled out as reporters have gotten access to his actual manifesto explaining (such as he is able) his actions last week.
More breaking news from 1537!
Yesterday morning in Bible class, my pastor actually made us read Joshua Green’s piece on Michele Bachmann’s former church body and the shocking revelation that the Lutheran church body is … Lutheran. We read every word and folks young and old were snickering at some of the more egregious errors and incendiary language.
Crystal Cathedral's Latino revival?
I feel like I just commented on a Los Angeles Times story about Crystal Cathedral. Oh, that’s right. I did.
Demonize the opposition, chapter 666
You know a story is going to be bad when the headline is “National Organization for Marriage crusading against gay nuptials in NY.” Crusading! Hide your kids! Hide your wife!
Insert conservative Christian cliche here
Maybe you’ve heard: Conservative Christian voters are going to be a big deal in the 2012 U.S. presidential election.
The strange case of tmatt and the twisted pronoun
As a journalism professor, one of the toughest challenges that I face is helping students learn how to avoid what I call “buried pronoun disease.”
