It’s Super Bowl Sunday, which means today is a super day to discuss coverage of faithful football coaches. Although, in this case it’s two former Super Bowl winning coaches. One, Tony Dungy, is taken on a new role of mentor to troubled players. The other, Mike Holmgren, is the new czar of the Browns and the second biggest macher in Cleveland, right after King James.
Air Force Academy's Pagan altar
Reporters have a very, very bad habit. It’s a vice I discovered while still a cub reporter at the UCLA Daily Bruin and watched colleagues fall prey to over the years that followed. I’ve got to admit I fell victim a few times too.

Handling the truth
Like many of you, I’ve been recreationally following the Proposition 8 trial. (Unlike many, this has not been a religious endeavor for me.) Testimony concluded yesterday, with the judge saying he needs about two months to review the evidence before issuing a verdict on the constitutionality of California’s voter-approved measure banning gay marriage.
Kurt Warner's haunting faith

South Africa's (sex) slave trade
E. Benjamin Skinner, author of “A Crime So Monstrous: Face-to-Face with Modern-Day Slavery,” has a painfully powerful piece in Time this week about AIDS-infected teenage girls plying their bodies in the shadow of a stadium that this summer will host the World Cup.
Exorcising the Cubs' demons
Spring training is still six weeks away, but, with pro football winding down and pro basketball dragging on, attention is already being turned to America’s past time.
Gay marriage oddsmaking
I’m now more than halfway through my first year at UCLA School of Law, which means I am, unassailably, an expert in the law. So who better to pretend to be GetReligion’s legal-scholar-in-residence?
Defender of the faith
Trailers, like the one above, have left me a bit in the dark about the premise of “The Book of Eli.” Clearly, it’s the future. The apocalypse has passed. And, apparently, the Road Warrior has ditched his ride and is now black. Based on those details alone, I knew I wanted to see the film, which opened today. (As I’ve mentioned, I like apocalyptic films.) What I couldn’t determine was whether the film’s theme was as biblical as the title suggests.
